Role & Responsibilities
Target Start: Early July 2025
We’re seeking a technician/scientist with an interest and passion for environmental research to assist with the development and demonstration of H2nanO’s water treatment technology. You will work with a talented team of engineers, chemists, and technicians at H2nanO to help design test programs, perform detailed chemical analysis, and support other technology development activities. You will be based in our research and development laboratory facility in Kitchener.
Key Roles:
Analytical Expertise: Develop and execute standard lab operating procedures, new analytical methods, and quality assurance and control program. Process water samples for analysis. Interpret and report on analytical results.
Chemical Lab Proficiency: Assist with day-to-day activities for laboratory test programs. Use, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot general lab equipment including balances, pipettes, centrifuges, pH probes, etc.
Application Testing: Conduct safe and precise experiments, participating in bench-scale testing to validate the performance of H2nanO’s technology for new applications.
Collaboration & Engagement: Work closely with senior lab staff and engage with field operations staff to ensure the successful execution of H2nanO’s demonstration programs.
Technology Development: Support the development of advanced materials and integrate knowledge in water chemistry and experiment design to create and analyze H2nanO’s water treatment technology.

Education & Experience: Training in the field of Materials, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or Sciences or related. Bachelor of Applied Science / Science, or similar is preferred. Relevant professional work experience is a benefit.
Technical expertise in materials engineering and applied chemistry, ideally with inorganic or organic powders, engineered polymers, and functional coatings.
Knowledge in materials chemistry and both organic and inorganic materials synthesis, compositing, and manufacturing.
Hands-on skills designing and fabricating experimental or performance testing apparatuses, including basic electro-mechanical systems. Other relevant hands-on experience, personally and professionally, is an asset.
Proven ability to produce high quality work in both hands-on experimentation and overall independent workflow execution and results interpretation.
Instinct for safety and experience implementing or enhancing safe work practices and handling hazardous materials.
Strong analytical skills, especially in experimental design and statistical optimization.
Strong interpersonal communication skills and adaptability to dynamic and multifaceted work environments.
Effectiveness in collaborative team environments and contributing to a positive and engaging culture; active in personal development and professional mentorship.
Additional Capabilities:
Knowledge or natural aptitude for hands-on assembly and process flow logic suitable to develop prototype and scale-up integration of process designs.
Entrepreneurial disposition; experience and instinct for bridging new products with practical application and working in dynamic, fast-paced, and highly independent projects.
Rapid prototyping skills, including modular design, electromechanical assembly, and 3D printing.
Proficiency with CAD tools and multi-physics modeling (e.g. AutoCAD, Fusion 360, ANSYS, COMSOL, OpenFOAM) is an asset but not required.
Proficiency with Python or similar programming languages is an asset but not required.
